More than a year after recieving the Ontario Arts Council writing grant finally, finally I have finished the first draft of my graphic novel Amygdala. Its a surreal story about a young girl who comes of age in a hysterical city and discovers love sucks, birds are wise, she can talk to the dead, and the people in the radio and television have messages for her. Still have to draw it tho’. It’s been a real challenge to develop the story the way I wanted to… and it still needs some tweaking….. a secret hint to the tale is that the amygdala is a part of your brain and the main protaganist in the story.

The Soft City at the CNE

Our Soft City Project is going to be paired up with the Design Exchange and the AGO at the CNE this year. We have been totally freaked trying to prepare for something so massive. But we hired some great artists so I think it may actually be manageable. We are really missing our original members though. Catherine and Yvonne are off getting smarter in other cities. And Sarah just had twins! This is the book that inspired it all. That I never read but Yvonne Ng did. Its about how cities should be malleable, I think

Rat King in New York
The Rat King is hitting the road and taking part in the New York Fringe festival. As Art Directors, we have made many sets, videos, costumes and props for the king of rats over the last two years — this is its third mounting. Today we made a 2D fridge and bookshelf. The Rat Robot with its red LED eyes is really looking especially creepy and cool this time around.

The Montrose Portrait Gallery
My friend Sarah Lazarovic used to be my cubicle mate on The Hour, but she is too busy now being a cartoonist, filmmaker and about a million other fascinating and impressive things. Most recently she decided to turn her garage into a portrait gallery. I made a few pieces of my family. You can see them to her left. Its already been a great success. Here is her picture in the Star. Check it out: http://theportraitgallery.ca/

Misha Globerman the documentary
On my video page there is a 5 minute doc about Misha Glouberman’s (of Misha Gloubermans school of Learning) sound improv class. Misha is a man about Toronto who seems to often be at the center at innovative methods of socializing, i.e. lectures by non-experts, game board playing in bars, and making crazy sounds. I am going to be documenting his work to maybe be later turned into a longer film. We will see where it takes us and who he impacts along the way…

Infest Wisely in Vegas

A film written by Jim Munroe, and directed in seven parts by seven directors (including myself) made its world premiere at Defcon 15, the world’s largest hacker convention, at The Riviera Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. The film was made with a non-budget and was a total community building exercise. Thanks to Jim’s energy and patience. The film can be seen online at www.infestwisely.com
